Artist statement

I am primarily interested in the landscape and our place as humans within the natural world.
The pace and demands of a modern lifestyle often leave little time for reflection so through my work I seek to create a stopping point, a place to consider the wider world outside of ourselves and our immediate environment.

My inspiration is drawn directly from the countryside, either in the form of a particular view or a natural object that contains, for me, an essence of a place.

Most recently I have explored colour in abstraction and its ability to represent place or emotion. This has translated into my work through a carefully chosen colour palette.
In order to manipulate colour effectively I have worked in cast glass, employing the technique of Pate de Verre, which allows me greater control over colour placement.

It is my aim to create work that is both tactile and evocative, which delivers its narrative with subtlety.
My hope is that my work will create a response that enables the viewer to pause and reflect, to be drawn in.
